The Aristotle Programme
Modern living calls for people who have a deep understanding of not only the world around them, but also of themselves.
We hear much of the development of Artificial Intelligence, how jobs will change in the future, and the dangers of climate and political change. This has always been the human condition – who, in the late 1800s would have envisaged people flying around the globe or sharing information instantly with those on the other side of the world?
At the centre of all such changes are people. For them to navigate these changes effectively, they will need the confidence to act and to know their own mind, whilst also understanding the factors which may affect that action. Acting with respect towards others and caring for the environment are both called for now more than ever.
The Aristotle Programme is designed for A Level students to meet the requirements of the UK Government’s comprehensive PHSCE programme in a new and innovative way. The materials used will draw on rich traditions from around the world to act as stimuli for discussion and debate, so that students can grow in Cultural Understanding and Critical Thinking abilities as they learn about the world around them and their relationship with it. This programme also develops some of the “soft skills” so essential for success in the world today.
A Level students will be prepared for and take the Global Perspectives A level, which will take their knowledge and understanding of these themes to a deeper level, and broaden their horizons. The course also develops students’ research skills, preparing them for success in their education beyond A Level.
Kennedy College Oxford aims to educate compassionate, understanding and thoughtful global citizens.
